Writer and improvizer. He has published 40 books to date in various genres and his work has been translated into English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Japanese and Farsi, in reviews and anthologies. He has won national and international poetry and narrative awards, among which the following stand out: International Prize Alba/Prensa Canaria (novel, 1998), International Prize Luis Berenguel (novel, 2005), UNAM-COLSÍN-SIGLO XXI International Prize (novel, 2014), Cortés de Cádiz Iberoamerican Prize (stories, 2014), Casa de las Américas International Prize (children and youth literature, 2019), Pinos Nuevos (stories, 1994), Luis Rogelio Nogueras (stories, 1991), Hemingway (stories, 1989) and Antonio Oliver Belmás (1994), Surcos (1996), City of Las Palmas (1996), Emilio Prados (2000) and Los Odres poetry awards (2008).

This book aims to bring children and young people to one of the sources of literature of all time, Don Quixote, and incorporate it spiritually as a nutritious material, but is directed especially at parents, responsible for encouraging reading. Illustrated with drawings by the prominent Cuban artist Roberto Fabelo, the volume tells in verses the adventures of the Hidalgo Manchego.
