About his Poetic work Nicolás Guillén said: «I would advise an anthology of my poems by suggesting those of the most perfect ending, as if my trade had started then. Or the social ambition poems, and leave aside those of love, those of satire, those of more intimate and painful expression. And those of the so called black poetry? By consulting the case to myself I judged that I should gather everything with only one standard, the quality achieved or followed closely».
